There has been a market of one type or another in Leicester since Henry III first granted "The Good Men of Leicester" a fair on the 'Day of the Purification of Our Lady'. The size and nature of the market has changed dramatically over the centuries and today Leicester Market is the biggest covered market in Europe with over 300 stalls selling a huge variety of food and other products 6 days a week.
As part of the renovation of the market area part of the roof has been removed to create a new flexible piazza area to introduce speciality markets to Leicester. This £600,000 scheme will provide an area immediately outside the Food Hall which can be laid out according to each type of event, with flexible gazebo-style stalls. The new area has been named Market Corner and is sited immediately next to the area of the market shown above. Full details can be seen on the Leicester Market website.
As part of this revitalisation process Antiques2Go are pleased to have been asked to introduce antiques and collectables to Leicester market. Leicester is a large with a diverse population and there are currently very few traders selling antique items. Following on from the popularity of the Northampton and Stratford markets this should be a popular and busy weekly event.
Leicester Antiques Market will be held every Wednesday from 18th May 2011 so If you would like to be part of this market please click the visitor or stallholder tab for further details.
