antiques and collectables on Northampton Market

History and Background

Those of you with long enough memories will remember the thriving antiques market which used to run in the Market Square in Northampton town centre.  Unfortunately, due to a wide variety of circumstances and changes in shopping trends this gradually dwindled away and the market as a whole shrank to a fraction of its former glory.

Northampton Borough Council now taken positive action to invest in the market square creating a flexible space to encourage shoppers and visitors back to the area.  Market Square Events has been given the job of revitalising the square to create a vibrant town centre with increasing numbers of visitors and shoppers.  Funding for this project has been provided by Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited in the form of a £900,000 grant and this money is to be used to bring vitality back to the market.  Details of  the many events already introduced back into the market, and those planned for the future, can be seen at www.northampton.gov.uk/northamptonmarket.

As part of this revitalisation process Antiques2Go were asked to re-introduce antiques to the square. Four events were planned for 2009 and these were so successful that the Antiques Market has continued on since then.

Antiques on the Square will be held on the second Saturday of every month so If you would like to be part of the events for the remainder of the year then click the tab for visitor or stallholder for further details.
